BLATCHINGTON MILL SCHOOL | Hove, Sussex

SUMMARY: School Extension

CLIENT: Blatchington Mill School and Sixth Form College

SIZE: 610m²

ARCHITECT: ZST Architects

Freeman Beesley provided full M&E design for the new school science block. This involved establishing the routes of existing services in the vicinity and adapting them as required for the new project.

The block is an extension of an existing building and is connected to the existing services.

The services were designed in such a way as to allow the existing building to continue to function as the construction work progressed.

The entire block was naturally ventilated utilising the ‘stack effect’. Two turrets runs up through block and windows and dampers open in response to CO2 and temperature to provide a path for fresh air to flow through the building. The building is split into four ‘zones’ with windows and dampers in each zone operating independently.
